Another masterful writing from Julie Anne Long, whom I consider the reigning 'best in business' right now. The funny bits are funny, the tear jerking bits are potent. The most amazing thing of all is how she creates characters that are flawed but also ridiculously perfect. Just see Evie Duggan, the heroine. A courtesan with a heart of gold, the premise could be cliche and disastrous, but JAL turns it to a fresh out character. My only complaint is of my emotional hiccup toward the end of the book which I find a bit uneven in pacing and behaviors of characters. Eventhough I've been dying to read Olivia and Lyon's story, but I could not begrudge the author for prolonging it by putting out, some might say, this interim book. Because I thought from the beginnning that this nice, gorgeous vicar very much deserved his own book and Julie Anne Long does him justice indeed.
